Wikis
Introduction
The name
Wiki may seem strange. So what is Wiki anyway? If you are reading this page, you are already using Wiki!
Wiki, also known as
WikiWikiWeb, is a collaborative web application that allows visitors to share their ideas. How? By editing the page! Everyone using Wiki is not only a reader, but could also be a writer! That's why it sounds weird: what happen if someone mess up my Wiki, say adding something improper or deleting the content without your permission? But suprisingly, it turns out that usually the visitors are very polite and will somehow follow your standard of writing. Of course, there are Wiki engines out there that requires visitor to register before editing, or just like this one, with Access Control List (ACL).
"Wiki wiki" means "fast" in the Hawaiian language. It is fast to setup, and fast to edit a Wiki. If you have programming background, you can further customize your Wiki! The fun of using Wiki is unlimited! A Wiki is a kind of
CMS application server.
If you still don't quite get what Wiki is, see also
What Is A Wiki. It probably explains much better.
