Mozilla
Introduction
Mozilla is a word formed from
Moasic and Go
zilla. It's the first
standard compliance of any browser ever released. Its life become even brighter after the dead of its mother
Netscape. Some of the most important features:
- Tabbed Browsing
- Popup Blocking
- Cookies Manager
- Consistent Interface Between Applications and Platforms
- Standards Compliance
- Great for Testing and Debugging Website
- OpenSource
- Unlimited Extendibility
Mozilla is a browser platform. Other developer can pick up work to add features (mostly as Mozilla extensions), and you can easily customize your browser to pick up all kinds of interesting capabilities. For example, adding your favorite Google toolbar, enhancing the tabbed browsing, saving browser session, feeding RSS, etc. The extendibility is unlimited.
Special Notice for Students using CS Lab
The terminals in the CS lab don't have any Mozilla browser installed. You can find Netscape Navigator 4.7x, but it is outdated and not standard compliant. If you'd like to use, or try, Mozilla family browser, download
Mozilla Firebird. You can just unzip it and run. No need to install!
A Little Sharing From A Student
I found that the running speed (including the startup speed) of Mozilla is much faster under
Linux than Windows using the same machine! It is a good incentive for you to switch to Linux as a desktop platform. By the way,
Mandrake is a desktop Linux suite that is very easy to use. -
